About this Wine

A refined Echézeaux Grand Cru from Les Rouges du Bas, showing red berries, cherry, fine spice, floral lift and an iron-tinged mineral frame. The 2021 vintage brings freshness, restraint and precision, shaped by a long élevage at a pivotal moment in Arnoux-Lachaux’s move towards ceramic ageing.

Please note: We work directly with the Domaine, therefore all wines are available strictly on allocation. The wines are intended for drinking, not trading and are priced accordingly.

Tasting Notes
Echezeaux ‘Les Rouges’ Grand Cru

Echézeaux from Les Rouges du Bas, a well-placed climat in the middle of the Echézeaux slope. The 2021 vintage marks a pivotal moment for the domaine, with a long élevage in oak alongside Charles Lachaux’s growing move towards ceramic ageing.

In the glass, this is Echézeaux with elegance and quiet intensity rather than obvious weight. Red berries, cherry, fine spice and floral lift sit over a mineral, iron-tinged structure, giving the wine both perfume and shape. There is Grand Cru depth here, but the cooler 2021 vintage keeps everything precise, fresh and finely drawn.

This is one of the great signatures of Arnoux-Lachaux: a wine that carries the natural breadth of Echézeaux, but with the domaine’s unmistakable sense of lift, clarity and restraint.

The Plot

Les Rouges du Bas sits in the middle of the Echézeaux Grand Cru, with Arnoux-Lachaux farming around 0.9 hectares of east-facing vines planted in the 1930s. The rows run north to south, rooted in oxidised iron-rich soils that help bring colour, structure and a subtly mineral edge to the wine.

Echézeaux can be broad and powerful, but this parcel gives something more detailed and composed: Grand Cru scale, Vosne perfume and a fine savoury frame.

Technical Details

The 2021 vintage at Arnoux-Lachaux was handled with restraint, matching the cooler, more classical nature of the year. Macerations were gentle and short, followed by an extended 31-month élevage, with bottling in April 2024 and release in March 2025.

This was the final Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux vintage aged in oak before the full move to ceramic ageing from 2022 onwards. For Echézeaux Les Rouges, that means the wine keeps its Grand Cru depth and natural structure, but with freshness, perfume and vineyard character at the centre.
