For over 40 years, Domaine Alain Gras has been the benchmark name in Saint-Romain, crafting wines that elevate this often-overlooked village to greatness. Perched high in the hills of the Côte de Beaune, his domaine produces remarkably pure, energetic white Burgundies and finely structured reds, wines that regularly punch above their village classification and offer astonishing value.
Their Saint-Romain wines are, of course, outstanding. But it’s their tiny, almost mythical cuvée of Meursault, simply titled Le Meursault, that truly astonishes.

Alain Gras took over his family’s modest holding in the 1970s, long before Saint-Romain had earned its place on the Burgundy map. A true pioneer, he championed the village when few others saw its potential, elevating it through meticulous vineyard work and instinctive winemaking. Today, his bottles are stocked across most of France’s three-star Michelin restaurants.
Now Alain remains hands-on in the cellar, crafting each wine with care and consistency, while his son Arthur leads the charge in the vineyards, continuing the family legacy with fresh energy and a deep respect for the land.

The essence of Burgundy’s terroir is captured in every glass of Alain and Arthur’s wine. From the high-altitude vineyards of Saint-Romain, where the crisp air lends brightness and elegance, to the gentle slopes of Meursault and Auxey-Duresses, each village brings its own personality.
Saint-Romain adds vibrancy, Meursault offers richness and depth, and Auxey-Duresses contributes subtle finesse. Together, these villages weave a story of flavour and character, lovingly crafted to reflect the soul of Burgundy.

Alain’s estate now spans 15 hectares across Saint-Romain, Meursault, and Auxey-Duresses, and is a testament to the family’s enduring commitment to excellence. From these storied vineyards come both whites and reds, each reflecting the unique character of each village while staying true to the family’s vision.
With every new vintage, Alain and Arthur deepen their connection to the land, offering wines that resonate with elegance, authenticity, and the distinctiveness of their origins. Their work is not just about making wine – it’s about creating a legacy that will inspire and delight for generations.

Why we’re excited
Domaine Alain Gras is one of those producers that shows just how much excitement there is beyond Burgundy’s most famous villages. The wines have real energy, precision and character, but still feel wonderfully approachable.
From bright, mineral Saint-Romain Chardonnay to old-vine Pinot Noir with depth and finesse, the quality consistently punches above the name on the label. With Arthur now working alongside Alain, there’s also a real sense of continuity, and plenty more still to come.
