Arnoux-Lachaux’s Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru “Quartier de Marei Haut” 2021 comes from the upper part of the Clos, one of the most prized positions in this vast and varied Grand Cru. The 2021 vintage marks a pivotal moment for the domaine, with the wines raised through a long élevage in oak and cermaic before Charles Lachaux’s full move to ceramic ageing from 2022 onwards.
This is Clos de Vougeot with unusual finesse. Rather than leaning only on power, it shows lifted red fruit, savoury depth, fine spice and a poised, silky texture. The Grand Cru weight is there, but it is carried with precision and restraint, giving the wine shape, length and quiet authority.
This is a serious, allocation-only bottle from one of Burgundy’s most closely watched domaines: Grand Cru structure, Côte de Nuits perfume and the lighter, more transparent touch that defines the 2021s.

The Plot
“Quartier de Marei Haut” a parcel in the upper part of Clos de Vougeot, a section known for bringing more finesse and lift than the heavier lower parts of the Clos.
Clos de Vougeot is one of Burgundy’s largest and most complex Grand Cru vineyards, so position matters enormously. From this upper sector, Arnoux-Lachaux produces a wine with Grand Cru depth, but also freshness, aromatic detail and a more refined sense of structure.
Technical Details
The 2021 vintage at Arnoux-Lachaux was handled with particular restraint. Macerations were gentle and followed by an extended 31-month élevage, with bottling in April 2024 and release in March 2025.
This was the final Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux vintage aged in oak before the move to full ceramic ageing from 2022 onwards. For Clos de Vougeot, that means the wine keeps its Grand Cru depth and structure, but with freshness, clarity and site expression at the centre rather than oak or extraction.
