A little more depth of colour and certainly more weight. Ripe apples dominate the nose and hold the oak at bay. Plenty of energy on the second half of the palate, piercing white fruit with good acidity, and even some tannins from the wood to finish.

Tasting Notes
Power and precision in equal measure. Old-vine Les Charmes with huge depth, ripe fruit and an almost electric line of freshness.

Ripe apple and honeysuckle lead into a broad, concentrated palate packed with piercing white fruit. There is serious weight, but also a remarkable sense of energy, with bright acidity cutting cleanly through the richness and keeping everything taut and precise.
The old-vine fruit has enough natural concentration to absorb the 30% new oak almost effortlessly, adding structure and depth without dominating the wine. As the palate develops, the wine seems to tighten, becoming increasingly focused and mineral towards a long, vibrant finish.
Jasper Morris found the same combination of depth and drive, noting the additional weight, ripe apple fruit, plenty of energy and good acidity, and scoring the wine 91–94 points.
A powerful expression of Charmes, but never a heavy one. Breadth, concentration and serious Premier Cru stature, all held together by superb tension.

The Plot
Les Charmes is one of Meursault’s great Premier Cru vineyards, renowned for wines that combine generosity and breadth with real finesse. Philippe’s parcel lies in the prized Charmes du Dessous, the lower section of the vineyard, sitting beneath the slope of Les Perrières.
He farms just 0.41 hectares, planted with old vines dating from 1939 and 1947, rooted in the classic clay and limestone soils of Meursault.
Those old vines and this privileged position give Philippe fruit with considerable natural concentration, but the terroir also brings the tension and precision that stop the wine becoming simply powerful.
