Pale in colour, with a certain steeliness. Notably more concentration on the palate than the nose suggests, with a fine backbone. Correctly ripe fruit, more pears than apples, a very clean and clear expression of Folatières. Just two barrels made, one new and one from the previous year.

About this Wine

One of those wines where power somehow becomes weightless. The nose is dense and concentrated, packed with pear, citrus and mineral depth, yet the palate is astonishingly light, airy and elegant. Impeccably balanced, beautifully precise and utterly ethereal. Just two barrels were made in 2024, that’s 600 bottles for the whole world.

Les Folatières sits on the same contour of land as Le Montrachet Grand Cru and one sip of this wine tells you why it’s regarded as one of Puligny’s greatest Premier Cru’s.

Tasting Notes

Only 2 barrels made. Ethereal Puligny from 75-year-old vines: dense, expressive and concentrated on the nose, yet almost weightless.

Puligny Montrachet Premier Cru ‘Les Folatières’ Au Chaniot

There is serious concentration here, but almost none of the weight you expect to accompany it.

The nose is dense and expressive, with ripe pear, citrus and layers of mineral depth immediately suggesting a wine of real substance. Then the palate completely changes the impression. It feels light, airy and almost ethereal, with the fruit carried effortlessly across the mouth rather than sitting heavily upon it.

That contrast is extraordinary. There is plenty of concentration beneath the surface, but freshness, fine acidity and a steely mineral backbone give the wine remarkable poise. Everything feels impeccably proportioned, right through to the long, precise finish.

Even 50% new oak disappears remarkably well into the wine, bringing structure and texture without disturbing its elegance.

Jasper Morris found the same concentration and fine backbone, highlighting the ripe pear fruit and exceptionally clean expression of Folatières, and scored it 92–94 points.

Dense yet weightless. Powerful yet incredibly elegant. A beautiful expression of one of Puligny’s great Premier Cru terroirs.

Discover Their Story

Domaine Philippe Chavy

A historic domaine in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet, crafting wines from some of the most legendary vineyards on earth.

The Chavy name rings out across Burgundy, synonymous with classically brilliant white wines. Philippe took the reins in 1990, inheriting Puligny parcels from his father (planted in the 1950s) and Meursault from his mother (going all the way back to 1932), with one of Saint-Aubin’s most iconic plots thrown into the mix.
