Les Grands Suchots 2018 comes from the domaine’s upper section of the Suchots vineyard, where the land avoids the usual dip. It is a deep, expressive and brilliantly concentrated wine, full of raspberry, dark fruit, freshness, fine spice and a touch of white pepper through the long, crisp finish. Powerful but never heavy, this is Suchots with real style, strength and persistence.
Please note: We work directly with the Domaine, therefore all wines are available strictly on allocation. The wines are intended for drinking, not trading and are priced accordingly.
Silky and complex, with layered red-fruited depth, savoury spice, mineral tension, and a refined, lingering texture.

Tasting Notes

Les Grands Suchots 2018 is a wine of extraordinary concentration, style and persistence. It comes from the domaine’s section at the top of the Suchots vineyard, where there is no dip in the land, giving a name that reflects both its position and historic usage.
In the glass, the 2018 is deep, expressive and beautifully fresh despite its dark-fruited intensity. There is real density here, but also lift: raspberry, dark berries, fine spice and a flicker of white pepper running through to a long, crisp finish. It is a wine of strength without heaviness, power without bluntness, and the kind of lingering flavour that stays with you long after tasting.
This is Vosne-Romanée at a very high level: perfumed, concentrated, stylish and completely commanding. A wine that shows both the natural grandeur of Suchots and the precision Charles Lachaux brought to the domaine in 2018.

The Plot
Les Grands Suchots refers to the upper part of the Suchots vineyard, where the land does not have the characteristic dip found elsewhere in the climat. The name has been sanctioned on the basis of historic usage, making it both a geographical and historical distinction within one of Vosne-Romanée’s great Premier Cru sites.
In 2018, the wine showed remarkable density, freshness and length, with the darker fruit of the vintage carried by energy rather than weight. It is a powerful expression of Suchots, but one with real finesse and shape.
Technical Details
The 2018 vintage marked a key moment in Charles Lachaux’s changing approach in the vineyard. Around half the domaine’s vineyards were still manually hedged, while the other half were trained much higher and left untrimmed, a shift that brought greater colour, intensity and fruit concentration.
