This Auxey-Duresses marries considerable intensity with a striking freshness that the moderately dry tannins accentuate. This may be slightly austere, but on the sleek, medium-bodied palate it has the structure to age. From a little-known, almost south-facing site in this commune that’s better known for whites. From organically grown grapes.

Tasting Notes
Deep, luxurious Auxey with Morello cherry, plum, liquorice and clove, framed by fine tannins and beautiful freshness.
The nose is deep and luxurious, with Morello cherry and ripe plum at the centre, surrounded by liquorice, black pepper and a subtle touch of clove. There is plenty of intensity, but nothing feels heavy.
On the palate it becomes beautifully precise. The fruit remains dark and vivid, the tannins are exceptionally fine and there is a freshness running underneath everything that keeps the wine poised. With air, the spice and liquorice become increasingly expressive, giving this a wonderfully layered, complete feel.
It is powerful enough to make an impression now, yet the balance and structure suggest plenty more to come.

The Plot
Le Val is a Premier Cru vineyard in Auxey-Duresses, planted on the slopes of the Montagne de Bourdon in continuation of Volnay and Monthélie.
The vineyard is terraced and almost south-facing, with very stony marl-limestone soils. Domaine Frey works 0.6035 hectares here, with vines averaging around 30 years old.
Its warmer exposure helps give the wine impressive depth and ripeness, while the stony soils and elevated position retain the freshness and structure that define the site.
Technical
The Pinot Noir is hand-harvested and sorted parcel by parcel in small crates before fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete tanks.
Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts before the wine spends 15 months in oak barrels.
The combination of dark fruit, fine tannins and natural freshness gives Le Val a particularly complete feel: serious and structured, but still beautifully polished.

Discover Their Story
There’s a new generation behind Domaine Frey. Now led by Caroline Frey's sister, Delphine Frey alongside young cellar master Axelle Piska, formerly of Domaine Étienne Sauzet, the seven-hectare estate is entering an exciting new chapter.
From Pommard, Volnay and Meursault to the slopes of Aloxe-Corton, its tiny range culminates in three Grands Crus, including their own Monopole, Corton Grand Cru ‘Le Clos du Château’. Organic farming, biodynamic principles and a new precision in the cellar are putting this historic domaine firmly back on the map.

Yes. This is ready to drink now and should give plenty of pleasure straight away. Open it for its perfume, texture and charm rather than waiting for the perfect distant moment.
Should I buy one bottle or a few?
One to try, three if you want to follow it over time, six if you already know the producer or style. Burgundy moves quickly, and small parcels rarely hang around for long.

How quickly will it arrive?
Fast. We ship every wine on a next-working-day service and dispatch Monday to Friday. At checkout, you can even choose a delivery day that suits you.
How is it packed?
Each bottle is wrapped in tissue before being carefully placed into our specially imported Italian boxes, tested to rigorous standards. We have literally dropped them from the first storey of our house. All our packaging is paper-based and recyclable.
Can I send it as a gift?
Absolutely. As standard, our wines arrive wrapped in bespoke tissue paper. At checkout, you can also add gift bags, gift boxes and notes.
