I love the violet aromas of this excellent Pommard village. Then on the compact, medium- to full-bodied palate there’s a wealth of licorice and wet earth alongside the ample black cherry fruit. Gentle tannins in the context of this commune, which is famous for firm wines, the velvet finish pulling you back for more. From two sites, including the part of Rugiens that isn’t 1er Cru. From organically grown grapes.
About this Wine
A beautifully serious Pommard from two parcels, including the village section of Rugiens and Chanlins. Blackberry, black cherry and plum lead into violet, liquorice and earthy complexity, with powerful but beautifully integrated tannins giving the wine real shape and depth.
Broad and savoury, with blackberry, black cherry, plum, violet perfume, earthy notes and black pepper.

Tasting Notes
Deep, powerful Pommard with blackberry, black cherry and violet, wrapped in fine tannins and a savoury, earthy finish.
The fruit is deep and concentrated, with blackberry, black cherry and ripe plum at the centre, lifted by a beautiful violet perfume. As it opens, the wine moves into more savoury territory, with liquorice, damp earth, dried leaves and a touch of black pepper adding layers around the fruit.
There is plenty of structure, as you would expect from Pommard, but the tannins are already remarkably well integrated. They give the wine breadth and grip without overwhelming the fruit, leading into a long, velvety finish.
Powerful, complex and distinctly Pommard, but with enough polish and perfume to keep everything beautifully composed.

The Plot
Domaine Frey produces this Pommard from two parcels: Rugiens and Chanlins.
Part of the fruit comes from the section of Rugiens that sits outside the Premier Cru classification, bringing some particularly compelling terroir into this village cuvée.
The soils combine chalky scree from higher up the Côte with red silts and stones from the underlying geological layers. They are brown, chalky and stony higher on the slope, becoming increasingly clay-rich further down.
The domaine works 0.6995 hectares, with vines averaging around 45 years old.
Technical Details
Pinot Noir from organically farmed vineyards in Pommard, harvested by hand.
The wine shows the natural power of the appellation, but with beautifully mature tannins and a freshness that keeps the palate alive. Dark fruit, floral perfume and earthy complexity come together in a style that feels broad and serious without becoming heavy.

Discover Their Story
There’s a new generation behind Domaine Frey. Now led by Caroline Frey's sister, Delphine Frey alongside young cellar master Axelle Piska, formerly of Domaine Étienne Sauzet, the seven-hectare estate is entering an exciting new chapter.
From Pommard, Volnay and Meursault to the slopes of Aloxe-Corton, its tiny range culminates in three Grands Crus, including their own Monopole, Corton Grand Cru ‘Le Clos du Château’. Organic farming, biodynamic principles and a new precision in the cellar are putting this historic domaine firmly back on the map.

How quickly will it arrive?
Fast. We ship every wine on a next-working-day service and dispatch Monday to Friday. At checkout, you can even choose a delivery day that suits you.
How is it packed?
Each bottle is wrapped in tissue before being carefully placed into our specially imported Italian boxes, tested to rigorous standards. We have literally dropped them from the first storey of our house. All our packaging is paper-based and recyclable.
Can I send it as a gift?
Absolutely. As standard, our wines arrive wrapped in bespoke tissue paper. At checkout, you can also add gift bags, gift boxes and notes.
