Bâtard-Montrachet is one of the great names of white Burgundy, and Morey-Coffinet owns just 0.13 hectares of it, a tiny parcel at the top of the vineyard on the Chassagne side.
The 2023 has all the scale you hope for from Bâtard. Deep white fruit, grilled almond, flowers and spice sit over a broad, silky palate, with real weight and concentration building as the wine moves through the glass.
But for all that power, there is remarkable control. Fresh acidity and a fine saline thread run straight through the richness, giving shape and energy to an enormous, incredibly persistent finish.
This is a wine that feels important. Immense, layered and powerful, but beautifully composed. One of those bottles you wait for the right table, the right people and the right moment to open.
Floral and mineral, with white fruit, grilled almond, honeysuckle, white pepper and a saline thread.
“Excellent wines from small producers which you can’t find elsewhere.”

Tasting Notes
One of white Burgundy’s great names: immense, layered and saline, with white fruit, grilled almond and a finish that seems endless

Bâtard-Montrachet is not just another Grand Cru.
It is one of those names that sits at the very centre of white Burgundy. Bigger than fashion. Bigger than vintage. A vineyard spoken about with a different kind of reverence.
And then you taste it.
The 2023 has enormous presence. White fruit, grilled almond, flowers and spice unfold into a deep, silky palate that seems to roll across every corner of the mouth.
There is richness here, serious richness, but not excess. Fresh acidity cuts through the weight while a fine saline line keeps pulling everything forward. The longer it sits in the glass, the more the wine seems to reveal: a little honeyed depth, spice, fine grip and that huge, slowly building texture.
Nothing feels rushed. Nothing needs to shout. It moves slowly and confidently, like a wine that knows exactly what it is.
And then comes the finish. Powerful, mineral, mouth-watering and almost absurdly long
There is something almost ceremonial about a bottle like this. You do not open it casually. You wait for the right table, the right people, the right moment. Then you pull the cork and let one of Burgundy’s great vineyards speak.
Tiny production. Legendary terroir. Completely unforgettable.

The Plot
Morey-Coffinet owns just 0.13 hectares of Bâtard-Montrachet, a minute parcel at the top of the vineyard on the Chassagne-Montrachet side.
The Chardonnay grows on an east-facing plateau over clay and limestone, with an extraordinary amount of stone running through the soil. The domaine records the vines as planted in 1997.
Bâtard-Montrachet itself is shared between Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet and sits below Montrachet on the great white-wine slope.
Morey-Coffinet's tiny holding is worked by horse and harvested entirely by hand. From 0.13 hectares of one of Burgundy's most famous vineyards comes an inevitably tiny quantity of wine.
Technical Details
100% Chardonnay, hand harvested from Morey-Coffinet's certified organic vineyards, with the domaine also working according to biodynamic principles.
The tiny 0.13-hectare parcel is trained using Guyot-Poussard pruning and the soils are worked by horse.
Vinification and élevage take place for 15 to 17 months exclusively in 350 litre oak barrels, with 50% new oak.
The wine is fined with bentonite but left unfiltered before bottling under natural cork and wax.
