A polished Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru from Les Chaumes, on the southern side of the village; showing red cherry, raspberry, plum, fine spice and soft floral lift. The 2021 vintage brings freshness and restraint, shaped by a long oak-and-ceramic élevage at a pivotal moment in Arnoux-Lachaux’s move towards ceramic ageing.

Tasting Notes

From the southern side of Vosne-Romanée, Les Chaumes is known for giving silk, perfume and generous fruit. The 2021 vintage marks a pivotal moment for the domaine, with a long élevage in oak and ceramic before the full move to ceramic ageing from 2022 onwards.
In the glass, this is Vosne-Romanée with charm and shape: red cherry, raspberry, plum, fine spice and a soft floral lift, carried by the freshness and restraint of the vintage. It has the natural sensuality of Vosne, but in 2021 that generosity is drawn in a finer, more transparent way.
This is Premier Cru Burgundy with polish and poise. Les Chaumes gives roundness and aromatic warmth, while Charles Lachaux’s lighter touch keeps the wine lifted, precise and full of movement.

The Plot
Les Chaumes sits on the southern side of Vosne-Romanée, Arnoux-Lachaux’s holding is around 0.74 hectares, with clay soils that help give the wine its supple, generous character.
Compared with the more chiselled or mineral side of Vosne, Les Chaumes often feels softer and more immediately inviting. In 2021, that natural roundness is balanced by the freshness and clarity of the vintage.
Technical Details
The 2021 vintage at Arnoux-Lachaux was handled with restraint, matching the cooler, more classical nature of the year. Macerations were gentle and short, followed by an extended 31-month élevage.
For the domaine, 2021 was a transitional vintage, with ageing split between oak and ceramic before the full move to ceramic from 2022 onwards. For Les Chaumes, that means the wine keeps its Premier Cru depth and Vosne perfume, while the élevage supports freshness, texture and site expression rather than obvious oak.
