Tasting Notes
Old-vine single-vineyard Chassagne with ripe citrus and peach, fine grip, mineral tension and a mouth-watering, persistent finish.

Les Houillères sits at the northern edge of Chassagne-Montrachet, close to Puligny and some seriously prestigious neighbouring vineyards. Morey-Coffinet's parcel includes Chardonnay planted back in 1955, and that old-vine depth comes through beautifully in the 2023.
Ripe citrus, peach and orchard fruit lead the way, with a subtle creamy edge underneath. The palate is focused and linear, carried by bright acidity and a fine, savoury grip that gives the wine real shape.
What really stands out is the mineral tension. It builds gradually through the palate and lingers long after the fruit, leaving the finish fresh, precise and mouth-watering.
A wonderfully focused expression of northern Chassagne, combining old-vine depth with energy, grip and remarkable persistence.

The Plot
Les Houillères lies at the northern end of Chassagne-Montrachet, close to the border with Puligny-Montrachet and near the Encégnières and Vide-Bourse Premier Cru vineyard.
Morey-Coffinet farms 0.82 hectares here on clay-limestone soils, with a predominantly south-facing position on the plateau.
The parcel combines old Chardonnay vines planted in 1955. Those older vines form an important part of the character of the cuvée, bringing depth and concentration while the site's position helps retain freshness and mineral tension.
Technical Details
100% Chardonnay, hand harvested from certified organic vineyards, with Morey-Coffinet also working according to biodynamic principles.
The 0.82-hectare parcel is cultivated mechanically and trained using Guyot pruning. The fruit is harvested by hand before vinification and élevage in 228 and 350 litre oak barrels.
The domaine normally raises Les Houillères for 12 to 14 months, with 30 to 50% new oak. The 2023 also included a small clay-jar component, helping preserve freshness and precision.
Bentonite fined and bottled unfiltered, under natural cork and wax.
