About this Wine
A tiny, exclusive release of Pierrick Bouley’s Volnay Premier Cru Clos des Chênes, kept back for a full 24 months of élevage.
Already one of his most complete and age-worthy Volnays, the extended maturation brings even greater depth, composure and integration to its lifted raspberry and cherry fruit. This is not the standard 2023 release. These bottles spent an additional year developing in Pierrick’s cellar before coming exclusively to Burgundy Wine Club.
Perfumed and savoury, with cherry, raspberry, violet, liquorice, mineral lift, and silky structure.
“Excellent wines from small producers which you can’t find elsewhere.”
Verified Trustpilot Review“The service has always been personal and excellent.”
Verified Trustpilot Review“Great wines, very reasonably priced, and customer service is excellent.”
Verified Trustpilot Review“Ben is super friendly, knowledgeable and takes time out to make sure you are assisted personally.”

Tasting Notes
An exclusive 24-month élevage release, pairing lifted raspberry and cherry fruit with added depth, polish and superb length.

Most bottles of Pierrick Bouley’s 2023 Clos des Chênes were released after their normal élevage. Ours were not.
This tiny parcel remained at the domaine for a full 24 months, allowing one of Pierrick’s most structured Premier Crus additional time to settle, knit together and gain another layer of refinement before bottling.
The fruit is wonderfully lifted: fresh raspberry, ripe cherry and flashes of darker berries, carried across a palate with real weight and persistence. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy found the aftertaste particularly enjoyable, awarding the standard release 94 points and highlighting its freshness, fruit concentration and length.
The extended élevage version takes that already impressive foundation and gives it something even rarer: more time.

The Plot
Clos des Chênes is one of Volnay’s 29 Premier Cru climats and is recognised for producing some of the appellation’s more substantial, structured and long-lived wines. Volnay itself is traditionally celebrated for perfume, delicacy and finesse, but Clos des Chênes often brings greater depth and authority to that classic elegance.
The vineyard sits towards the northern side of Volnay, close to the boundary with Monthélie. Its more exposed position can help retain freshness while allowing the grapes to achieve excellent ripeness.
In Pierrick’s hands, it becomes a beautifully complete expression of Volnay: lifted and perfumed, yet with enough fruit weight, tannin and length to reward serious ageing
Technical Details
Pierrick works organically across his vineyards, with increasing use of biodynamic practices. His reds are fully destemmed and fermented using native yeasts, with no sulphur added during vinification and only a minimal addition before bottling.
This particular parcel received 24 months of élevage, an additional year beyond the standard release, before being bottled exclusively for Burgundy Wine Club.
The extended maturation is especially well suited to Clos des Chênes. Its natural concentration and structure give the wine enough substance to absorb the additional time in barrel while preserving the lifted red fruit and freshness noted by Jasper Morris.
