A tiny-production Gevrey with all the power and character you hope for from the village. Blackberry and blackcurrant bring the darker fruit, lifted by cherry and raspberry, while dried rose and black pepper add complexity. Even at this youthful stage, you can almost sense where this wine is heading, with the first hints of that beautiful Gevrey earthiness beneath the fruit: girolle mushrooms, woodland and forest floor waiting to emerge with time.
Production is almost absurdly small: 274 bottles and 10 magnums.
Dark-fruited and perfumed, with blackberry, cherry, dried rose, black pepper and a stony, silky core.
“Excellent wines from small producers which you can’t find elsewhere.”
Verified Reviewer“The service has always been personal and excellent.”
Verified Reviewer“Great wines, very reasonably priced, and customer service is excellent.”
Verified Reviewer“Ben is super friendly, knowledgeable and takes time out to make sure you are assisted personally.”

The Plot
Meix-Bas lies at the northernmost edge of Gevrey-Chambertin, on a terrace partway up the hillside.
The soils are shallow and exceptionally stony, formed from crinoidal limestone rich in marine fossils, with iron also present. Drainage is excellent, helping concentrate the Pinot Noir and giving the wine both intensity and definition.
Messager-Germain farms just 0.443 hectares here, with vines around 30 years old.
Technical Details
100% Pinot Noir, harvested by hand on 20 September 2024.
The fruit was completely destemmed before a three-day pre-fermentation at 8°C. Extraction was relatively assertive, with six punch-downs alongside gentle pumping over with low oxygen exposure.
The wine was aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 30% new, before racking from the bottom of the barrel and bottling without filtration.
Production is almost absurdly small: 274 bottles and 10 magnums.
