About this Wine

Drawn from three distinct parcels within Échézeaux, this is a wine built on contrast: shallow limestone, deeper clay, finesse, breadth and mineral drive all meeting in one remarkably complete expression.

The 2022 is elegant rather than opulent, with Parma violet, redcurrant and raspberry carried across a palate that feels almost weightless.

It also comes from the Domaine’s first vintage raised entirely in ceramic.

Please note: We work directly with the Domaine, therefore all wines are available strictly on allocation. The wines are intended for drinking, not trading and are priced accordingly.

Tasting Notes

Parma violet, redcurrant and raspberry over a firm mineral spine. Weightless, poised and beautifully resolved Grand Cru.

Echezeaux ‘Les Rouges’ Grand Cru

Drawn from three distinct parcels within Échézeaux, this is a wine built on contrast and balance.

Les Rouges du Bas sits on extremely shallow soils, with little more than a skim of topsoil before hard limestone takes over, lending the wine its mineral spine and finesse.

Échézeaux du Dessus, among the best-situated sites in the appellation, brings harmony and poise, while a small parcel in Les Treux, rooted in deeper clay, adds richness and breadth.

The colour in the glass is deep and inviting, but what follows is all elegance.

The wine glides across the palate, weightless and assured, the three components working in perfect accord.

A familiar Parma-violet note returns on the nose, suggesting sweetness, but the palate leans firmly mineral. Redcurrant and raspberry define the fruit profile, precise and lifted rather than opulent.

The finish is long, calm and beautifully resolved.

And in 2022, that balance feels especially transparent. This was the first vintage in which the entire Arnoux-Lachaux range was raised exclusively in ceramic, allowing the differences between each parcel to come through without the imprint of oak.

A Grand Cru that earns your attention.

The Plot

This cuvée brings together three separate parts of Échézeaux, each contributing something very different.

Les Rouges du Bas, around 0.15 hectares, sits on exceptionally shallow soils over hard limestone, giving the wine mineral tension and finesse.

Échézeaux du Dessus, around 0.45 hectares, lies in one of the appellation’s most highly regarded positions and brings poise and harmony.

A final 0.09-hectare parcel in Les Treux, where the clay is deeper, adds richness and breadth.

What makes the wine so compelling is not the contrast itself, but how completely those three elements come together.

Technical Details

2022 marks a defining moment at Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux: the first vintage in which every wine from the Domaine was raised entirely in ceramic.

The wines spent an extended 36 months in neutral Clayver ceramic vessels before bottling. By removing the aromatic and structural imprint of oak, Charles is looking for the clearest possible expression of fruit, texture and vineyard.

Whole grapes remain central to the winemaking, alongside the Domaine’s distinctive vineyard approach of tall, untrimmed vines and permanent vegetation between the rows.

Échézeaux is perhaps one of the most revealing wines in which to see that philosophy at work. The cuvée is assembled from three parcels with markedly different soils and personalities, and the ceramic élevage allows those differences to remain visible while still resolving into one complete wine.

The result is Grand Cru depth with remarkable lightness: mineral, perfumed, precise and beautifully composed.

There are turning points in every great region. Moments where tradition meets vision, and something extraordinary happens. For Burgundy, one of those moments is Charles Lachaux with the family domaine, Arnoux-Lachaux.

Since taking the reins of his family domaine in 2012, Charles has transformed Arnoux-Lachaux into one of the most closely followed names in the region. The wines are now among the most sought-after in the world – not for their rarity alone, but for their clarity, precision, and sense of life.

Our Take

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Reading back through my notes, one word recurs like a heartbeat: perfume. Not as a throwaway cliché, but as a presence that truly rises from the glass. These 2022s may still be infants, but the leap forward Charles and the team have achieved is astonishing.
