A deeper, darker side of Fixin, with striking concentration and real finesse. Around a quarter of the vineyard produces millerandé grapes: unusually tiny berries with a high skin-to-juice ratio, bringing remarkable colour, intensity and concentration. Blackberry and blackcurrant lead, with hints of blueberry, a fresh raspberry tartness, impressive minerality and an incredible violet perfume on the nose.
Floral and stony, with blackberry, blackcurrant, violet perfume, bright raspberry lift, and silky structure.

Tasting Notes
Dark, mineral Fixin with violet, blackberry, blackcurrant and a bright raspberry lift.

This is a serious, beautifully concentrated Pinot Noir. The colour is notably deep, and the fruit follows through with layers of blackberry, blackcurrant and a touch of blueberry. There is plenty of intensity, but it never feels heavy, thanks to a bright raspberry edge and a superb mineral thread running through the wine. The nose is especially impressive, with gorgeous violet perfume rising from the glass. Powerful, stony and wonderfully poised.

The Plot
Champs des Ares sits on the northern edge of the appellation, just outside Fixin. It is an old vineyard, planted in 1977, with very poor, stony soils that drain exceptionally well.
That austere terroir feels central to the wine’s character. The soils naturally restrict vigour and help produce grapes of real concentration, while the excellent drainage brings precision and energy. Around a quarter of the vineyard produces millerandé grapes, which helps explain the wine’s darker colour and extra depth.
This is very much Pinot from stony ground: concentrated, mineral and intensely aromatic, but still elegant.
Technical Details
100% Pinot Noir from 0.7246 hectares, harvested by hand on 21 September 2024.
The fruit was fully destemmed, with a three-day pre-fermentation at 8°C. Extraction was moderate, with five punch-downs and gentle pumping over under low oxygen conditions.
The wine was aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 30% new, then racked from the bottom of the barrel and bottled without filtration.
Production was 2,746 bottles and 10 magnums.
