The 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Vau De Vey La Grande Chaume reveals aromas of orange oil, pear and freshly baked bread, complemented by notes of almond paste, sandalwood and dried flowers. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, ample and textural, with a sweet, concentrated core, concluding with a long, persistent finish. The wine derives from a steep, southeast-facing lieu-dit planted between 1980 and 1985 and, like the rest of Arnaud’s 2023s, was matured for its first year in barrels before completing élevage in stainless steel tank.

The Plot
La Grande Chaume sits high on the steep, southeast slopes of Vau de Vey, a secluded fold of the valley where Chardonnay has been rooted since 1980. The soils are poor, pale and stony, layered over ancient Kimmeridgian marl that shapes the wine’s mineral signature. Hand-harvested fruit, low yields and the site’s exposure all create a wine of natural tension and clarity, a style mirrored in the long lees ageing that Jérémy Arnaud favours. It is a parcel that speaks softly but precisely, carrying the light of its slope straight into the glass.
Technical Details
Hand-harvested Chardonnay, planted in 1980 then fermented in barrel with indigenous yeasts. For 2023, the wine spends 12 months in oak followed by a further 12 months in stainless steel, with extended ageing on its lees. That second year in steel is a change we particularly love in this vintage, with its beautifully fresh, mouthwatering balance.

Jérémy Arnaud’s ascent toward Chablis cult status traces back to 1990, when his father planted the family’s first solitary hectare.
Jérémy stepped in with just half a hectare of his own in 2017, and his holdings have since multiplied tenfold, mirroring the speed and certainty of his rise. He stands at the vanguard of a new Chablis generation, rejecting pesticides, harvesting by hand, and ageing in true wooden barrels to craft wines with striking texture, tension and depth.
