Tasting Notes

A Santenay Premier Cru brimming with cherry, raspberry, spice, and a velvet touch of violet.

Santenay Premier Cru ‘Le Petit Clos Rousseau’

Silk and Spice

This Santenay Premier Cru is a Pinot Noir that sings in layers: ripe cherry and raspberry leap forward, grounded by darker blackcurrant and cranberry bite. Violet perfumes lift the wine, while notes of black pepper, liquorice, and vanilla lace through a silky, seamless palate. A wine that balances freshness with finesse, and fruit with spice.

The Plot

Le Petit Clos Rousseau is a Premier Cru vineyard in the southern village of Santenay, marked by fractured limestone and a south-east exposition. The site’s rifted relief brings complexity and freshness to the wines, while its old vines (60 years) ensure depth and concentration.

Technical Details

Harvested manually on September 11, the grapes were fully destemmed, followed by a 5-day cold maceration and a gentle 20-day vatting with light pump-overs. Fermentation was spontaneous with native yeasts. Ageing lasted 12 months in 70% one-wine oak barrels and 30% stainless steel, creating a balance of fruit purity and oak complexity.

Discover Their Story

Ex Nihilo

Founded by Morgane and Alban Desazars, this young house brings Champagne polish to Côte d’Or terroir.

They may be recent arrivals, but their journey runs deep. Alban works directly in the vines, guiding the raw material from soil to cellar. Morgane brings sharp vision and precision. Together, they craft single-plot wines with patience, instinct, and a touch of daring – miniscule volumes, but big character.

FAQs

Clear details, so you can buy with confidence

Is this wine ready to drink now?

Yes, especially if you enjoy youthful, vibrant Burgundy. It has plenty to give now, but there is more to come with a little time in bottle.

Should I buy one bottle or a few?

One to try, three if you want to follow it over time, six if you already know the producer or style. Burgundy moves quickly, and small parcels rarely hang around for long.

What if I’m not sure this is my style?

Use our live chat, or pop us an email. We specialise in Burgundy and are always happy to help. Our tasting notes are based on wines tasted by our founders and updated regularly, so you can buy with proper confidence.

How quickly will it arrive?

Fast. We ship every wine on a next-working-day service and dispatch Monday to Friday. At checkout, you can even choose a delivery day that suits you.

How is it packed?

Each bottle is wrapped in tissue before being carefully placed into our specially imported Italian boxes, tested to rigorous standards. We have literally dropped them from the first storey of our house. All our packaging is paper-based and recyclable.

Can I send it as a gift?

Absolutely. As standard, our wines arrive wrapped in bespoke tissue paper. At checkout, you can also add gift bags, gift boxes and notes.
