Arnoux-Lachaux’s holding lies in Quartier des Marei Haut, just below the château and high on the slope, where the vineyard takes on a very different character. From around 75-year-old vines, the 2022 is beautifully proportioned: perfumed, mineral and powerful without ever becoming heavy.
It also comes from the Domaine’s first vintage raised entirely in ceramic.

Tasting Notes
Parma violet, mineral drive and beautifully judged structure from 75-year-old vines high in Clos de Vougeot.

Clos de Vougeot is one of Burgundy’s great symbols, not just of place but of wine itself, with origins reaching back centuries.
Arnoux-Lachaux’s holding lies in Quartier des Marei Haut, just below the château, positioned high on the slope where drainage is excellent and the vineyard shows a very different side of itself.
This is a deeply intriguing expression of Clos de Vougeot.
Rather than leaning into sheer tannic force, Charles has shaped a wine of balance and proportion. The tannins have a gentle chew, enough to frame the sweet fruit without ever dominating it.
The nose is immediately inviting, exuding Parma violet and drawing you closer with each breath.
Despite the age of the vines, around 75 years, there’s a clear mineral line running through the wine, paired with just the right level of acidity to keep everything fresh and alive.
Nothing feels heavy. Nothing feels forced.
Complete. Composed.
And in 2022, that sense of proportion feels even more exposed. This was the first vintage in which the entire Arnoux-Lachaux range was raised exclusively in ceramic, leaving the perfume, mineral line and natural structure of the vineyard completely unobscured.
This is the kind of Clos de Vougeot that reminds you exactly why this place has commanded attention for centuries.

The Plot
Arnoux-Lachaux’s parcel sits in Quartier des Marei Haut, high within Clos de Vougeot and immediately below the château.
The vines are around 75 years old, and the position high on the slope brings excellent drainage and a character quite different from the broader, heavier expressions sometimes associated with the appellation.
Here, the wine is about proportion rather than brute force.
There is still unmistakable Grand Cru depth and structure, but it is carried by perfume, minerality and freshness, giving the wine both authority and remarkable poise.
Technical Details
2022 marks a defining moment at Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux: the first vintage in which every wine from the Domaine was raised entirely in ceramic.
The wines spent an extended 36 months in neutral Clayver ceramic vessels before bottling. By removing the aromatic and structural imprint of oak, Charles is looking for the clearest possible expression of fruit, texture and vineyard.
Whole grapes remain central to the winemaking, alongside the Domaine’s distinctive vineyard work of tall, untrimmed vines and permanent vegetation between the rows.
Clos de Vougeot already brings ample natural structure, especially from vines of this age. The ceramic élevage therefore does not need to manufacture weight or shape. Instead, it leaves the wine’s Parma-violet perfume, mineral core and measured tannic frame completely exposed.
The result is Grand Cru power without heaviness.

Discover Their Story
There are turning points in every great region. Moments where tradition meets vision, and something extraordinary happens. For Burgundy, one of those moments is Charles Lachaux with the family domaine, Arnoux-Lachaux.
Since taking the reins of his family domaine in 2012, Charles has transformed Arnoux-Lachaux into one of the most closely followed names in the region. The wines are now among the most sought-after in the world – not for their rarity alone, but for their clarity, precision, and sense of life.
Our Take
Reading back through my notes, one word recurs like a heartbeat: perfume. Not as a throwaway cliché, but as a presence that truly rises from the glass. These 2022s may still be infants, but the leap forward Charles and the team have achieved is astonishing.
