Charles’ holding in Les Chaumes runs from the very top of the vineyard to its base, sitting immediately below La Tâche. The vines are around 65 years old, and the wine has exactly the finesse you’d hope for from such a site: perfumed, mineral and beautifully composed.
2022 also marks the Domaine’s first vintage raised entirely in ceramic.

Tasting Notes
Powdery tannins, redcurrant, rose petal and mineral precision from old vines directly below La Tâche.

Charles’ holding in Les Chaumes runs from the very top of the vineyard down to its base, sitting just below the iconic La Tâche. The vines here are around 65 years old, and they bring a natural finesse and grace to the wine.
The tannins are light and powdery, giving the wine an immediate charm. A gentle decant only helps it find its rhythm.
There’s a clear mineral core running through the palate, balanced by fresh red fruits, with redcurrant quietly weaving its way into the mix.
On the nose, fresh rose petals lift everything, adding perfume and poise.
This is Premier Cru Vosne at its most inviting. Elegant, detailed and effortlessly delicious.
And in 2022, that refinement comes through with unusual clarity. This was the first vintage in which the entire Arnoux-Lachaux range was raised entirely in ceramic, allowing the perfume, fruit and texture of the wine to come through without the imprint of oak.

The Plot
Les Chaumes sits directly below La Tâche, one of the most iconic sites in Vosne-Romanée.
Charles’ holding stretches from the very top of the vineyard to its base, giving him a broad expression of the slope rather than a narrow slice of it. The vines are around 65 years old.
That position and vine age help explain the character of the wine: there is structure, but it is carried with finesse. Mineral drive runs through the palate, while the fruit stays fresh and lifted rather than dense or heavy.
Technical Details
2022 marks a major turning point at Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux: the first vintage in which every wine from the domaine was raised entirely in ceramic.
The wines spent an extended 36 months in neutral Clayver ceramic vessels before bottling. By removing the aromatic and structural influence of oak, Charles is aiming for a more direct expression of fruit, texture and site.
Whole grapes remain central to the winemaking, while the vineyard work centres around tall, untrimmed vines and permanent vegetation between the rows.
In Les Chaumes, the ceramic élevage feels especially well matched to the vineyard. This is naturally one of the more graceful and perfumed expressions in the range, and the absence of oak leaves its rose-petal perfume, red fruit, mineral core and fine powdery tannins completely exposed.

Discover Their Story
There are turning points in every great region. Moments where tradition meets vision, and something extraordinary happens. For Burgundy, one of those moments is Charles Lachaux with the family domaine, Arnoux-Lachaux.
Since taking the reins of his family domaine in 2012, Charles has transformed Arnoux-Lachaux into one of the most closely followed names in the region. The wines are now among the most sought-after in the world – not for their rarity alone, but for their clarity, precision, and sense of life.
Our Take
Reading back through my notes, one word recurs like a heartbeat: perfume. Not as a throwaway cliché, but as a presence that truly rises from the glass. These 2022s may still be infants, but the leap forward Charles and the team have achieved is astonishing.
