The Quintessence of Puligny
Les Pucelles remains one of the most magical vineyards in Burgundy, and Philippe’s 2021 shows its pedigree in full. Old vines planted in 1947 yield a wine of volume and finesse: generous fruit carried on integrated acidity, with a delicate touch of biscuit and citrus zest adding nuance. Elegant, layered and long, this is Puligny at its most refined.
📍 The Plot
Philippe farms just 0.20 ha here, planted in 1947, producing only about three barrels – roughly 1,300 bottles – in a normal year. The soils are clay-limestone, classic Puligny, and the two small parcels lie just below Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a position that gives Pucelles its famed perfume and grace.
🍇 Technical
Hand-harvested Chardonnay, whole-bunch pressed, fermented in tank before finishing in barrel. Aged 11 months in 228L barrels, in 2021 split between one new and one one-year-old barrel. 16 months’ élevage in total. Bottled by hand using the traditional chèvre à deux becs.
