Wine Details
The Icon. Still Beyond Words.
In 1728, Abbé Arnoux wrote: “This wine has qualities of which neither the Latin nor the French language can explain the sweetness… I am not able to express the delicacy and excellence.”
Alas, we try.
Montrachet. The icon of icons. A vineyard spoken of for over 800 years, surviving wars, famine, and the passing whims of man. It endures for one reason. Nothing else tastes like it.
From the Chassagne side, earning the name Le Montrachet.
The nose is already moving. White peach, honeyed citrus, blossom, a touch of flint, all shimmering just beneath the surface.
But it doesn’t give itself away.
On the palate, it dances. Not heavy, not forced. Energy, extract, and something deeper, an intensity that feels held back rather than pushed forward. Everything is there, but not all at once.
It doesn’t arrive. It unfolds. Slowly. Inevitably.
This is not a wine you understand in a moment.
It’s one you return to, again and again, knowing you’ll never quite reach the end of it.
The Plot
Le Montrachet Grand Cru sits at the very heart of Burgundy, straddling the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. This cuvée comes from the Chassagne side, historically known for producing wines of depth and quiet power. The vineyard’s limestone-rich soils and perfect exposition have made it one of the most revered sites in the world for over eight centuries.
Technical
100% Chardonnay from Le Montrachet Grand Cru, sourced from the Chassagne side of the vineyard, planted on limestone-rich soils that underpin its precision, depth, and longevity.
In the cellar, the approach follows the domaine’s signature style. Whole bunches are pressed long and firmly to extract maximum lees, with controlled oxidation only at this early stage. Fermentation takes place in custom 456-litre barrels for both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, keeping oak influence subtle and allowing the vineyard to speak clearly. From pressing to bottling, the wine is protected with nitrogen, preserving its purity, energy, and layered, evolving structure.
