Tasting

Notes

This isn’t your grumpy old-school Pommard. Pézerolles is light on its feet, floral on the nose, and just salty enough to make you come back for more. Raspberry, rose, and a flick of spice glide over a silky frame, with fine tannins and mineral tension keeping things tight. Elegant, expressive, and totally addictive — we’d buy it for the name alone, but the wine’s even better.

Domaine A.F. Gros

A.F. Gros is where two great Burgundy families, Gros and Parent come together.

Now led by siblings Caroline and Mathias Parent, this next-gen duo brings fresh energy to a legacy of precision.

From Bourgogne to Richebourg, every wine gets the same care: whole bunch ferments, ceramic ageing, and a quiet radicalism behind the classic style.

Pommard’s Floral Rebellion.

Don’t come here expecting burly tannins and bluster. This is a Pommard Premier Cru with perfume, poise, and a whole lot of style. Raspberry, cherry, rose and black pepper all swirl in the glass, with a hint of liquorice and a salty snap on the finish. It’s light on its feet, but far from flimsy — there’s precision and persistence, with fine tannins that shape the wine without stealing the show. It’s a quieter Pommard. But an absolute cracker.

📍 The Plot

‘Les Pézerolles’ lies on the eastern side of Pommard, near a geological fault line, with clay-limestone soils and great drainage. The name comes from “Poizerolles” — old French for “chickpeas,” which were once grown here in the Middle Ages. At around 300m altitude, this site delivers lift, elegance, and a different angle on Pommard’s power.

🍇 Technical

50–80% whole bunch fermentation, followed by ageing in 50% ceramic and 50% oak barrels (max 20% new).  Maturation lasts 15–18 months, allowing the wine to develop purity and spice without overt oak influence.

844 Acres Farmed  •  28 Premier Cru

Nestled in the Côte de Beaune, Pommard is renowned for its bold, full-bodied red wines, celebrated for their strength, structure, and layered complexity. These wines typically feature rich dark fruit, earthy forest floor notes, and a strong tannin structure, capturing the bold spirit of Burgundy. Over time, some selections surprise with unexpected nuance and finesse, balancing power with precision.

Pommard’s wines are a true expression of Burgundy’s winemaking excellence, offering depth and sophistication. With age, they develop a refined elegance while maintaining their muscular character, making them highly sought after by collectors.

Located just south of Beaune and north of Volnay, Pommard benefits from gently sloping hills and optimal sun exposure, contributing to the slow ripening of its grapes. The clay-limestone soils impart intensity and balance to the wines, enhancing their earthy complexity.

With centuries of winemaking tradition, Pommard has earned its place as one of the Côte de Beaune’s most distinguished villages. Known for producing wines of power and longevity, its legacy continues through a commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

91-93 Points | Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

An even ruby purple. This is perhaps surprisingly one of the more perfumed wines, with fuller raspberry notes. A little more body and definitely some firmer tannins, but at a level which works for me. Nicely made, with clarity and retaining a Pommard profile. Notably persistent Drink from 2032-2037. Tasted Oct 2024.
