Vinelights
This was the wine of the trip. Even as a February 2025 baby, it turned heads, a seductive swirl of floral perfume, dark cherry spice, and smoky savoury undertones. There’s richness and grip, yes, but also a silken texture and that line of pure, precise strawberry fruit. It’s the kind of Clos Vougeot that reminds you why this wall-enclosed vineyard is a legend. Bold, complex, yet poised. Like a velvet fist in a velvet glove.
📍 The Plot
The domaine farms just over half a hectare here, with grapes from Musigni (bordering Musigny) and La Garenne – two prized lieux-dits that bring both floral lift and muscular depth. These parcels were once held by Gros Frère et Soeur, traded within the family as the next generation (Mathias and Caroline) took up the torch. The result is a more precise, expressive style. One that carries the weight of tradition, but dances with a lighter step.
🍇 Technical
Fermentation was carried out with 70% whole bunches, enhancing aromatic lift and adding structure. The wine is then aged using a 50/50 split between ceramic and oak barrels, with no more than 20% new oak used. Ceramic vessels are chosen for their neutrality, allowing for a purer, more elegant expression of this iconic terroir. The result is a Clos Vougeot that combines muscular depth with aromatic finesse, and that promises graceful aging without excess wood influence.
