Discover their Story

Pierre Girardin

The story begins in 2017. At just eighteen years old, Pierre-Vincent Girardin founded his own domaine, working with a handful of exceptional vineyard parcels retained from his family’s historic holdings.

Raised in Meursault and shaped by generations of Burgundian winemaking, he works organically in the vineyards and has rapidly forged a style defined by purity, precision and energy. Already being compared to Coche-Dury & Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, from the first taste, it’s clear why.

Wine Details

Wine Details

Tension. Precision. Power.

One of Chassagne’s most revered sites, often spoken of in the same breath as the very best. You can see why. But it doesn’t need the comparison.

The nose is deep and composed. Citrus peel, white flowers, wet stone, with a gentle veil of popcorn that slowly lifts, revealing more with time in the glass.

On the palate, it’s all lime and energy. Taut, mineral, and driving. A chalky, saline edge cuts through the core, giving it real definition and focus. There’s weight here, but it never shows itself fully. Everything is held tight, controlled, precise.

This is not a wine that gives everything away. Not yet.

It holds back, slowly building, promising more with time.

The Plot

La Romanée is one of the most highly regarded Premier Cru sites in Chassagne-Montrachet, known for producing wines of intensity, structure, and longevity. The vineyard sits on classic clay-limestone soils with a strong chalk influence, contributing to the wine’s tension, minerality, and ageing potential.

Technical

100% Chardonnay from the Premier Cru La Romanée vineyard in Chassagne-Montrachet, grown on clay-limestone soils with a high proportion of chalk, supporting both structure and precision.

In the cellar, the approach follows the domaine’s signature style. Whole bunches are pressed long and firmly to extract maximum lees, with controlled oxidation only at this early stage. Fermentation takes place in custom 456-litre barrels for both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, limiting oak influence and allowing the vineyard character to lead. From pressing to bottling, the wine is protected with nitrogen, preserving tension, energy, and a tightly wound structure designed for ageing.

Chassagne-Montrachet, nestled in the southern Côte de Beaune, is one of Burgundy’s most revered wine villages, renowned for both its exceptional white and red wines. Though historically known for its red wines, today it is celebrated primarily for its elegant and richly textured Chardonnay, which rivals those of its neighbours Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault.

The white wines of Chassagne-Montrachet are renowned for their balance of power and finesse, offering layers of ripe orchard fruits, citrus, and hints of hazelnut, underpinned by a distinct minerality. The reds, crafted from Pinot Noir, bring a robust and earthy character with notes of red berries, spice, and subtle floral tones, showcasing the village’s versatility.

Chassagne-Montrachet is home to a significant portion of the Montrachet Grand Cru, widely regarded as the pinnacle of white Burgundy. It also boasts prestigious Premier Cru vineyards like Les Chenevottes and Les Vergers, which exemplify the village’s diversity and quality. Its limestone-rich soils and optimal sun exposure create the perfect conditions for producing wines of complexity and depth.

Steeped in history and viticultural excellence, Chassagne-Montrachet embodies the artistry of Burgundy. Its wines, whether white or red, are beloved by collectors and enthusiasts, offering a profound expression of the region’s unique terroir and centuries-old winemaking tradition.
