The Crazy Earth of Folatières
Folatières is one of Puligny’s great premier crus, and Philippe’s vines are in Au Chaniot – the choicest section, lying on the same contour line as Le Montrachet Grand Cru and Caillerets. The name “Folatières” comes from folles-terres or “crazy earth,” a nod to the rocks cascading down from above during storms, enriching the soils and sharpening the wines.
The 2023 is dazzling: nectarine, peach, pear and green apple, lifted by honeysuckle and white blossom. Flinty minerality runs through, giving definition to a wine that’s both dense and powerful yet glides across the palate with ethereal grace. Sleek, hedonistic and unforgettable. Puligny in it’s full grandeur.
