Tasting

Notes

This isn’t your gruff, old-school Pommard. Grown on a steep, stony slope near the Volnay border, Les Chanlins brings black fruit muscle and floral finesse in equal measure. Rose petals, black pepper, and a core of dark cherry pulse through every sip — lifted by that mineral tension you only get from rock and slope. Silky. Serious. And seriously seductive.

Discover their Story

Domaine A.F. Gros

A.F. Gros is where two great Burgundy families, Gros and Parent come together.

Now led by siblings Caroline and Mathias Parent, this next-gen duo brings fresh energy to a legacy of precision.

From Bourgogne to Richebourg, every wine gets the same care: whole bunch ferments, ceramic ageing, and a quiet radicalism behind the classic style.

Vinelights

Pommard with a Volnay Complex. Elegant but Earthy.

Forget the old-school idea of Pommard as the burly bruiser — this Premier Cru is more of a stiletto than a boot. Blackcurrant, cherry, and dark plum lead the charge, but there’s rose petal fragrance, vanilla spice, and a peppery flicker too. Thanks to the steep slope and fine stones underfoot, there’s minerality and finesse beneath all that fruit. This is structured, yes — but in a tailored kind of way. Give it a few years and it’ll absolutely sing.

📍 The Plot

Les Chanlins lies right on the Volnay border and climbs a fairly steep slope scattered with small stones and low clay content. That terroir brings freshness and fine tannins — a more mineral, lifted take on Pommard. This cuvée is farmed under organic principles and picked by hand for maximum precision.

🍇 Technical

Grown on a steep, stony slope bordering Volnay, this cuvée from Les Chanlins was fermented with 50–80% whole bunches for lifted aromatics and structure. Élevage took place in a mix of 50% ceramic and 50% oak barrels, with no more than 20% new oak. Ceramic ageing keeps the purity of the fruit intact while allowing the wine’s peppery, mineral-driven profile to shine. A precise and polished Pommard with ageing potential.

Nestled in the Côte de Beaune, Pommard is renowned for its bold, full-bodied red wines, celebrated for their strength, structure, and layered complexity. These wines typically feature rich dark fruit, earthy forest floor notes, and a strong tannin structure, capturing the bold spirit of Burgundy. Over time, some selections surprise with unexpected nuance and finesse, balancing power with precision.

Pommard’s wines are a true expression of Burgundy’s winemaking excellence, offering depth and sophistication. With age, they develop a refined elegance while maintaining their muscular character, making them highly sought after by collectors.

Located just south of Beaune and north of Volnay, Pommard benefits from gently sloping hills and optimal sun exposure, contributing to the slow ripening of its grapes. The clay-limestone soils impart intensity and balance to the wines, enhancing their earthy complexity.

With centuries of winemaking tradition, Pommard has earned its place as one of the Côte de Beaune’s most distinguished villages. Known for producing wines of power and longevity, its legacy continues through a commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
